This haiku refers to the sinking of the Empress of Ireland in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence on May 29 1914, when 1,012 on board died. While the sinking took place in the spring, this haiku is set in the autumn when it is colder and mist is clammy. The buoy is there all the time, season in and season out.

Dans cet haiku il s’agit du naufrage de l’Empress of Ireland dans la Golfe du Saint-Laurent où le paquebot a coulé le 29 mai 1914. Parmi les passagers 1,014 sont morts. Bienque le naufrage ait eu lieu au printemps, cet haiku est situé en automne quand il fait encore plus froid et la brume est plus froide. La bouée est toujours là peu importe la saison.
